Avatar Legends Tier List: Best Characters, Launch Rankings, Scores and Role Ratings
Avatar Legends tier list with best characters, ranked launch scores, role ratings, beginner fit, matchup notes and practical picks for each playstyle.
This page is a launch-meta reference, not an official ranking. Early coverage does not fully agree: Destructoid rates Azula, Korra, Toph and Aang/Avatar Aang very highly; Pocket Tactics puts Azula and Korra alone in S tier, while moving Zuko, Sokka and Toph into A tier. InsertCoins focuses more on character archetypes and difficulty. The table below combines those signals with each fighter's practical strengths, learning curve and resource value.
Overall launch ranking
| Rank | Tier | Character | Summary |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | S+ | Azula | Best pressure and trap pick; dominates space with blue fire, lightning setups and air mobility, but demands execution. |
| 2 | S | Korra | Direct, high-reward rushdown with strong follow-ups and Avatar Cycle momentum. |
| 3 | S | Toph | Armored approach, high damage and forgiving close-range pressure make her excellent in practical play. |
| 4 | A+ | Aang | Extremely mobile rushdown; can feel top tier in experienced hands but drops sharply if movement is weak. |
| 5 | A | Katara | Clear zoning and defensive setup plan; strong if the player manages spacing and Flow well. |
| 6 | A | Zuko | Accessible mid-range fundamentals character; some sources question his damage ceiling, but he is still valuable for learning spacing and confirms. |
| 7 | A- | Fire Lord Ozai | Versatile fire zoner with reach, speed and throw pressure, but less explosive than the top tier. |
| 8 | A- | Nightmare Korra | Powerful install-style variant, but weaker movement and resource demands make her less stable than normal Korra. |
| 9 | B+ | Sokka | Technical trap and weapon character; strong with setup knowledge, inconsistent if boomerang routes are not mastered. |
| 10 | B+ | Zaheer | Unusual aerial pressure and ally-assisted play; rewarding but lab-heavy. |
| 11 | B | Avatar State Aang | Very versatile boss-style toolkit, but advanced options make him harder to stabilize than standard Aang. |
| 12 | B- | Kyoshi | Huge reach, armor and single-hit damage, but slow movement can be punished by mobile characters. |
Detailed score matrix

| Nightmare Korra | A- | 7 | 8 | 9 | 6 | 5 | Experienced Korra players who accept movement tradeoffs for power. |
| Sokka | B+ | 7 | 7 | 6 | 6 | 5 | Setup players who enjoy boomerang, weapon routes and trick plays. |
| Zaheer | B+ | 7 | 8 | 6 | 5 | 4 | Lab players who want floaty aerial pressure and unconventional routes. |
| Avatar State Aang | B | 8 | 7 | 8 | 6 | 4 | Advanced players who want a broad elemental toolkit after learning basics. |
| Kyoshi | B- | 6 | 6 | 10 | 8 | 5 | Players who value reach, armor and reads over speed. |
Character-by-character notes
Azula — S+
Azula is the highest ceiling pick in the launch meta. Public tier lists consistently praise her traps, damage and corner control. Her blue fire projectiles, lightning setups and air movement let her turn one advantage state into a long pressure sequence. The drawback is execution: if you cannot maintain spacing, her strongest pressure becomes much less reliable.
Korra — S
Korra ranks highly because her plan is easy to understand and hard to ignore: get in, confirm a hit, follow up, and keep the opponent near the corner. Avatar Cycle gives her route planning and resource reward without making the basic game plan too obscure for newer players.
Toph — S
Toph is strong because armor and high damage reduce the punishment for small mistakes. She can force action by walking forward, threatening grabs and making blocked pressure uncomfortable. The main weakness is predictability: if every entry is armored approach, experienced opponents will bait and punish.
Aang — A+
Aang is a movement test. With clean air movement and Flow routing, he can dictate tempo, switch sides and trap opponents in awkward corner situations. Without that movement control, he feels much weaker, so he is ranked high for skilled hands rather than as the safest beginner pick.
Katara — A
Katara is the cleanest spacing pick. Water projectiles, ice tools and defensive setups make her strong when the player is patient. She rewards players who would rather control screen position than always rush forward.
Zuko — A
Zuko is divisive: some lists place him lower because of damage concerns, while roster guides recommend him as one of the best starters. This site ranks him as A because his value is practical: reliable anti-airs, mid-range fire pokes, simple confirms and a clear duel plan.
Sokka — B+
Sokka is a setup character. Sword, club, boomerang and counter-style tools can become frustrating for opponents, but the reward depends on route knowledge. He is not weak, but he is less plug-and-play than Korra, Toph or Zuko.
Kyoshi — B-
Kyoshi has some of the most frightening single-hit reward on the roster. Her fans, armor and reach make opponents respect her space. The issue is speed: mobile characters can make her chase, whiff and guess. Use her if you enjoy hard reads and heavy punishment.
How to use this tier list
- If you are new, start with Toph, Zuko, Korra or Katara depending on whether you prefer armor, fundamentals, rushdown or zoning.
- If you want the strongest competitive ceiling, learn Azula or movement-heavy Aang.
- If you enjoy technical routes, consider Sokka, Zaheer, Nightmare Korra or Avatar State Aang after learning universal systems.
- Re-check the page after patches, DLC and ranked data, because fighting-game tier lists change quickly.
Source notes
This ranking summarizes public launch coverage from Destructoid, Pocket Tactics and InsertCoins, then adds site-level scoring for neutral, pressure, damage, defense and ease of use. Treat it as a practical guide for choosing a character, not as official balance data.
